Supernova Winter Championships

Saturday 25th February 2017 Entries are invited from competitors for the Supernova Class.

Organised by BOWMOOR SAILING CLUB and Sponsored by OXFORD CARRIERS and in Association with FORCE4 CHANDLERY

  1. Rules: Races will be governed by the ‘Rules’ as defined in the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017 – 2020 except as they are changed by Bowmoor SC Open Meeting sailing instructions, Supernova Class Rules, the prescriptions of the RYA and this Notice of Race. Racing Rules 27.1 and 40 will be changed to the effect that buoyancy aids are compulsory. The changes appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. Competitors should note that Bowmoor Sailing Club implements the RYA Racing Charter and that they will be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter, which can be found at the front of the RYA rule book and at the point of event entry.
  2. Eligibility: The regatta is open to all boats of the Supernova Class only. Eligible boats may enter by completing an entry form on arrival at the Registration Desk. Sailors must be a paid up member of the Supernova Class (joining is possible at registration).
  3. Entry & Fee: Entry is on the day from 09h00 with a fee of £15 payable at the registration desk (cash only). The Registration Fee includes tea/coffee on arrival and a hot lunch.
  4. Schedule: Three 45 minute races are scheduled for the event, with two results to count. A competitors’ briefing will be held in the club house at 10h30. Start times will be approximately as follows:- 1st Race start: 11h00 2nd Race start: as soon as possible after 1st Race (back-to-back) 3rd Race start: 14h00 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 10h55. A ‘5-4-1-0’ starting sequence will be used.
  5. Sailing Instructions: The Sailing Instructions are available on the club website: www.bowmoor.co.uk under ‘Racing’ or Sailing Instructions for Open Meetings. Additional copies will be made available at the time of entry.
  6. Courses: The course for each race will be set by the OOD at least 10 minutes prior to the start of each race.
  7. Scoring: The low points scoring system will be used. 2 races are required to be completed to constitute a series. When 3 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score as the discard. For series ties – RRS rule A8 applies. In the event that only one race is sailed, the Championship prizes will be awarded based on the result of that race.
  8. Prizes: Prizes will be awarded for 1st – 5th places. Other spot prizes will be awarded. This event is kindly sponsored by Oxford Carriers in association with Force4 Chandlery who will provide the prizes.
  9. Disclaimer of Liability: Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk; see RRS Rule 4 ‘Decision to Race’. Bowmoor Sailing Club will not accept any liability for material damage, accident or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the event.
  10. Insurance: Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of at least £2,000,000 or the equivalent.

Further Information: Competitors will be required to wear a suitable wet- or dry-suit whilst on the water and a suitable buoyancy aid or lifejacket (which must not be of the self-inflating type). The entry fee includes a bacon roll with tea/coffee after registration, and a hot lunch at 13h00 approximately. Any special catering needs must be advised at least 48 hours in advance.

Free on-site camping is available for the hardy or for Motorhomes in the Car Park. Access from 5pm on Friday 24th February or by prior arrangement. Directions: Bowmoor Sailing Club Entrance is on the South side of the A417 Cirencester to Lechlade road approximately 1.9 miles West of Lechlade town centre and 2 miles East of Fairford town centre. The entrance is signposted to Hanson, Coln Park Residential and Bowmoor Sailing Club. After leaving the main road turn sharp right along the lane to the clubhouse. There is plenty of parking space near the Club House. For sat nav systems use coordinates 51.698870, -1.730710 or 51° 41′ 56.06″ N, 1° 43′ 51.49″ W. The nearest postcode is GL7 3DT, which is a little East of the entrance. OS grid reference is SP 1869000052. Bowmoor BioSecurity Policy: Please note that visiting boats must be clean and emptied of water (including launching trolleys) with all visible and obvious signs of contamination (such as mud and weed) removed well away from the Club premises.

Lake statistics: Area: 330,000 sq.m, 85 Acres. Useful racing area approximately 60%. Average depth 3m but the lake is 5 – 6m deep in parts near marks 3 and 4. The lake is marked with 12 permanent buoys (1 – 12) with movable buoys (V, W, X, Y Z) used for racing marks. Even numbered marks are coloured orange with odd numbered marks being yellow.
