Notice of Race

  1. Rules

1.1       Races will be governed by the ‘Rules’ as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017 – 2020 except as they are changed by the Bowmoor Sailing Club sailing instructions, the prescriptions of the RYA and this Notice of Race.

  1. Condition of Entry

2.1       The regatta is open to all boats of the Laser and Byte classes only. Byte CII, CI and traditional rigs; Standard, Radial and 4.7 rigs are welcome. Eligible boats may enter by completing an entry form.

2.2       The safety of the boat and its entire management, including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the competitor(s) racing the boat.

2.3       All craft on the club premises (on land and on the water) must have full insurance cover, including third party liability to £2,000,000.

2.4       The race organisers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/competitor, his skipper or crew, as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every owner/competitor warrants the suitability of his boat for the race or races.

2.5       To prevent the spread of non-native species boats and trolleys should be cleaned prior to arrival.  Check Clean Dry: http://www.nonnativespecies.org/checkcleandry/index.cfm.

  1. Organising Authority

3.1       The organising authority is Bowmoor Sailing Club.

  1. Safety Regulations

4.1       All competitors shall wear adequate personal buoyancy at all times whilst afloat. (Bowmoor SC SI 2.7)

  1. Entry and Registration

5.1       There will be an entry fee of £15 per person including lunch.

5.2       Eligible boats may enter by completing an entry form with the organising authority on the day of the event.

  1. Event and Programme

6.1       Sailing instructions will be available at entry registration on the day of the event and are posted on the club’s notice board in clubhouse. A copy can also be found on the Bowmoor website. (refer to ‘Racing’ page)

6.2       Hot and cold food and drinks will be available.

6.3       Entry registration will commence from 10:00.am

6.4       There will be a briefing for all competitors at 11:00 am

6.5       It is intended to hold at least 3 races. The earliest start will be at 11:30.

6.6       The race starting sequence shall be as defined in the Bowmoor ‘Sailing Instructions for Open Meetings’ instruction 6.1

  1. Advertising and Sponsorship

7.1       Advertising will be restricted to Category C.

  1. The Course

8.1       The courses will be set on Bowmoor Sailing Club water at Coln Park Lake. For directions to the club refer to the club’s website at www.bowmoor.co.uk.

  1. Scoring

9.1       Points

The low point scoring system will apply as set out in RRS A4.1. Boats that did not start, did not finish, retired after finishing or were disqualified shall be scored in accordance with RRS A4.2.

9.2       Series Ties

RRS rule A8 applies.

9.3       Individual Scoring

Boats will be placed in order of their combined points.  If 3 or more races are sailed, the worst score will be discarded.

9.4       For the Byte fleet, if all of the entries are of the same type (e.g. Byte CII) the races shall be run as “first past the post”. If the fleet is mixed then the races shall be run as General Handicap races under the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick scheme using Portsmouth Numbers specified by the UK Byte Class Association and Bowmoor Sailing Club.
