Bowmoor Youth & Oppy Camp 2017

Bowmoor Sailing Club annual Youth & Oppy Camp will be held this year from Tuesday evening 30th May to Friday 2nd June 2017 (half term week for most schools).  In addition to Optimist coaching, this year we will also provide an opportunity for older children to participate in other boats.

We hope to offer a Camp that will cater for all levels of ability from those who have recently completed initial training to those currently competing at open events around the country.  We have arranged for John Burford to coach the more experienced Optimist sailors for all 3-days to ensure that they can continue with their development and we have experienced and inspiring coaches for all of our other levels. As last year, we plan to run a group for children who would like to improve their sailing, but who do not yet wish to progress to racing.

On Thursday night we are planning a Camp BBQ.  All other meals will need to be self-catered.

Last years camp was the biggest ever and we anticipate that the event will again be popular with both our members and non-members.  Booking is now open and all bookings will be via the Bowmoor website and our web-collect system.  This gives parents the opportunity to pay on-line and by card if they choose.  Please do not leave it to the last minute to book – it provides us with a real problem when it comes to booking sufficient coaches and given the strength in numbers within the Fleet, there is a real chance that you may miss out.  To encourage early booking we are running an early bird discount for bookings made by 8th April. After this prices will increase with no guarantee of a place!

For beginners, there are a limited number of Club Optibats and Club training boats, preference will go to members who are new starters and attend the training programme prior to camp on a first come first served basis. During camp each child must have sole use of a boat as it is impracticable to share.  If your child requires a Club boat, please ensure that you check the relevant box when you make your booking.

Younger Sibling Sailors

There will be a Pirate group for younger siblings (aged 6 or older) of sailors booked onto camp. The Pirate group will be aimed at those children who are not quite old enough to sail an Oppy independently but who are ready to build skills and confidence towards sailing through a range of water and shore based activities. To book a place for a Pirate, please complete the on-line entry which you can find underneath the Oppy Camp entry form on the Bowmoor website.

The cost includes all coaching, prizes, contribution to fuel, administrative costs, BBQ on Thursday night and a hoody for each sailor.  Camping on site is free and we invite people to arrive, register and set up on Tuesday evening ready for a 0900 coach’s brief on Wednesday morning.

Please note: a parent/guardian must remain on site at all times and will be required to carry out duties during the duration of camp in order to help everything run smoothly.

The Bowmoor Optimist Open meeting and Yoo Youth Regatta will be held on the Saturday (3rd June) immediately following camp, this event will be suitable for all camp sailors and visitors, entry will be on the day.
