Solo Open Meeting – 11th May

Solo’s at Bowmoor Sailing Club – Sunday 11th May 2014
Bowmoor Solo Open 1
Eight hardy souls from 5 different clubs ventured onto the water in a south-westerly wind that varied, unpredictably, between 20 and 35 knots for much of the day. Racing was kept relatively simple by Race Officer Mike Dyer and his team of Laser Club members, with a course needing just one gybe, as long as one could trust stability on the slightly precarious longish dead-run.

Ross Harvey, in his new “Boat from the Yard at Beer”, was first to the windward mark, closely followed by Guy Lonsdale from South Cerney SC and Geoff Silcock. Both Ross and Guy demonstrated their expertise in righting a capsize with little delay, and Ross eventually pulled away to take first place, with Guy second and Geoff third.

Fewer ventured out after lunch, but the outcome remained the same, although Adrian Neal from Sutton Bingham SC moved briefly into third place, before a capsize after the gybe set him back to finish fourth, with the rest of the fleet retiring.

Now down to just the four determined sailors, the third race proved to be a confirmation of what had already been established .

Overall Results:

1st Ross Harvey (5495) , Bowmoor SC
2nd (& 1st Veteran) Guy Lonsdale (4512), South Cerney SC
3rd (& 1st Grandmaster) Geoff Silcock (5378) , Bowmoor SC
4th Adrian Neal (5083), Sutton Bingham SC
