Supernova

Bowmoor Supernovas

The Supernova is a “one design” single-handed performance sailing dinghy of 4.3 metres length with an 8 square metre fully battened mylar sail and stayed mast. It was originally designed and built by Mark Giles. It is now built by Hartley Boats in Derby.

Bowmoor has a growing fleet of Supernova sailors – known as the friendly fleet, we organise our own coaching sessions and we work together to improve the skills and performance of all members of the fleet. Supernovas currently race within the handicap fleet at the Club and within existing Club racing we also operate our own series events; the ‘Bowmoor Supernova Shuffle’, with a personal handicap system to ensure every sailor has a chance to win races.

The Supernova has an extremely active Class Association with an excellent traveller’s series as well as a very popular National Championship.  In 2015, the Class attracted 67 entries at Paignton and we already have 120 boats booked for the 2016 event in Llandudno (1st to 3rd July 2016).  The Class Association website is at http://www.supernovadinghy.org/

Pete Bingham (SN1068) is the Class Secretary and races at Bowmoor most weekends and Mike Walker (SN1087) is the new Fleet Captain at Bowmoor.

If you are looking for an exciting single-handed dinghy that is comfortable and great fun to sail, please come and talk to any member of the fleet.
